Shifting Time and Priorities

Exploring the intersection of time, work, and passion in the pursuit of freedom

The Concept of Time

What is time? Does it exist, or is it just a human construct based on planetary movement around the sun? I do not know, and I do not think too much about it. What I do know is that I am getting older, or at least my body is.

Regardless, the existence of time, whether real or not, is debatable. So is our existence here on Earth. Is this thing we call life real, or is it a simulation? I do not know that either, but I get increasingly convinced each year that this is a simulation. Who runs the simulation? I do not know, and I do not need to know because it does not matter. It ends the same way, either way.

The Perception of Time Shortage

So, where am I going with this? Well, there is a shortage of time, at least for me. I do not have enough of it. That is not entirely true, however. The thing is, I do not have enough money to have the liberty to choose how to spend my time.

The Constraints of Employment

I need to work to earn money to pay my bills, afford food, and have a roof over my head. By all means, I have the liberty to sacrifice all that and I could start to live like a caveman in the woods, digging a hole in the ground to live in, living off berries, fish, and whatever I can catch. But that is not what I want or need.

The Need for Diversified Income Streams

What I need is one or more ways to diversify my income streams and to make myself independent of the need to physically go to work. I need a job, or more, where I can work from home or wherever I may physically be located if I have a computer that is connected to the internet.

The Pursuit of Personal Interests

I want to spend more time doing the things I love to do, and also get paid while doing it.

Music as a Source of Joy and Income

I have my music, but I do not see it ever becoming my main source of income. Sure, a man can dream, but being realistic about it may be a smarter option. I do not write music to make money from it in the first place. I write music because it makes me feel happy and it is a form of therapy for me. I would, of course, not complain if I could live off my music, but that is not the case. It is one small source of income, but that is all it is. I wish I had more time to write music.

Exploring YouTube as a Creative Outlet

A couple of years ago, I started my YouTube channel. I recorded some clips of me playing the guitar and that was pretty much it. I did some review videos and some other stuff. I had no video editing skills when I started my channel. The sound on my videos was not great either. I just hooked up a basic microphone in my room and recorded the guitar amp in the room. Anyway, during the time I was experimenting with YouTube, I learned how to use DaVinci Resolve and I also started to record my guitar with a DAW and both sound and video improved. I really wish that I had more time to create YouTube videos because it is fun, and I enjoy doing it. But it is really time-consuming, and I simply do not have the time to do it at this moment.

Photography and Freelance Work

I love to take photos. Recently, I upgraded my camera gear and bought a Canon EOS 90D. Along with the camera, I've added several lenses to my kit: a Canon EF 70-200mm IS USM L, a Canon 10-22mm, a Samyang 8mm fisheye, and an Oshiro 60mm macro lens. These new tools have significantly expanded my capabilities and creative potential in photography.

I need to take some portrait photos and edit them to build my portfolio so I can get more jobs. I've opened accounts on both Fiverr and Freelancer, and I am planning to create some gigs on Fiverr as a photo editor. The only thing holding me back is time – I haven't had the chance to get started yet.

Despite my busy schedule, I'm committed to finding the time for this new venture. After all, a crucial part of diversifying my income streams is to make the most out of the skills and resources I have at my disposal. And with my new camera gear, I'm more ready than ever to take on freelance photography and photo editing work.

Priorities and Time Management

So, what is it that consumes my time? In short, it's about priorities. I feel like I'm stuck in a hamster wheel at the moment, where my day job takes up most of my time and drains most of my energy. I like my job, but it takes too much of my time, and the payoff is too small to make it sustainable in the long run. Therefore, I am working really hard with the time I have to make the necessary changes that will allow me to live my life as I want to live it. Because in the end, it's really not about the lack of time. It's about the lack of money that buys me the freedom to choose how I can spend my time.

The biggest mistake is you think you have time. Time is free, but it’s priceless. You can’t own it, but you can use it. You can’t keep it, but you can spend it. And once it’s lost you can never get it back.
