Behringer Studio 50 USB - In-Depth Review

Introduction

The Behringer Studio 50 USB speakers found their way into my home studio as a thoughtful birthday gift. Upon receiving them, their weightiness immediately stood out, hinting at their quality and durability, although their heft is in line with other speakers in the same category.

Key Features

These speakers offer versatile connectivity options, including XLR and TRS inputs, and the unique capability to connect directly to a computer via USB. According to the manufacturer, the XLR and TRS inputs can be used simultaneously with a digital source, though I have not personally tested this.

One of the selling points that originally attracted me was the USB connection, which I viewed as a hassle-free solution. However, I found that controlling the volume when the speakers are connected via USB can be challenging. This minor inconvenience led me to prefer using the XLR connection to my sound card.

Sound Quality

The most significant aspect of any speakers, the sound quality, is impressive with the Behringer Studio 50 USB. They emit a crisp and clear sound across a frequency range of 55-20000Hz. In my opinion, the bass sounds best when the input trim is set at 0db, but this is subjective and can be tailored to individual preferences.

The input trim can be adjusted from -6db to 6db via a knob located on the back of the speakers. Additionally, there's a button to control the high frequency between zero, +2, -2, -4db.

Design and Build Quality

The build quality of the speakers is commendable - they don't feel cheap. However, the cable connecting the two speakers is two meters long, which may be a bit short depending on your setup. I personally would have preferred a three-meter cable, but I haven't found an option to purchase one separately.

Conclusion

In summary, despite being budget speakers, the Behringer Studio 50 USB offers commendable sound quality that holds up well during daily use. I use these speakers virtually every day without ever feeling the need for a different set. Please keep in mind that these speakers, while excellent for their price range, should not be compared to high-end professional studio speakers.

If you're seeking great quality speakers without splurging too much, I highly recommend the Behringer Studio 50 USB. They've proven to be a reliable addition to my home studio setup.
