My song “A Day in May” is scheduled to be released on all the major streaming platform’s 10/10/22. I of course look forward to that, but I am also realistic about it, and I realize that the earth will not stop to spin because of that.

Anyway, when I wrote the song, I wanted to do something that sounded cinematic and epic. So, I googled after epic chord progressions, and I found a chord progression that I liked, and I started to build the song on that chord progression.

The chord progression I used is Am / Em / G / D / Am / CMaj7 / G / D and it is the same chord progression that Hans Zimmer used in his masterpiece Time.

Even if I use the same chord progression in my song it sounds nothing the same as Time. I found the chord progression and more at Daniel Ran’s Blog.

I used mostly free VST’s for the song. The ones I used is:

• Bassoon by Bigcat Instruments – VSCO2 - Free
• Mini Grand by AIR – Paid (Bundled with Akai MPK Mini MK3 in my case)
• MT-Power Drum Kit 2 by Manda Audio - Free with nag screen or paid with a small contribution to the developer.
• Sampled drums – Free, licensed under Creative Commons.

I recorded in Reaper, which is a great DAW for a very reasonable price. I also used Izotope Music Production Suite for the mix and master.

A funny detail was that I never listened to Time before I started to write my song. It was first after I finished my song that I suddenly felt a lump in my stomach. What if my song sounds the same or resembles Time to much. I had to listen to it, and I was relieved that it did not. And seriously how could it. I mean it is Hans Zimmer. He plays in a completely different ballpark.
